Windows 7 Stability Fix Breaks Stability 02/07/2010

Last week, Microsoft posted a slew of non-security updates for Windows 7, one of which was titled as follows: "An update is available to improve the stability and the reliability of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2." Unfortunately, according to a thread on Microsoft TechNet, the update (KB977074) is actually breaking the stability and reliability of the operating system.

New IE Flaw Gives Hackers Access to User Files 02/06/2010

Microsoft warned yesterday that a flaw in its Internet Explorer browser gives attackers access to files stored on a PC if the attackers know the name of the file they want to access. The vulnerability is the result of incorrectly rendering local files in the browser. It affects IE 5.01 and IE 6 on Windows 2000; IE 6 on Windows 2000 SP 4; and IE 6, 7 & 8 on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Office 2010 RC Build 4734.1000 Released 02/05/2010 
The first Release Candidate (RC) for Office 2010 has been released officially to the testers. Testers have started to receive email invitations to download and start playing with Office 2010 RC Build 4734.1000. Unfortunately the RC version will not be delivered to the public.
Microsoft is expected to hit the RTM in the coming months, and general availability will be in June.

Another Stability and Reliability Update Released for Windows 7 02/04/2010

Here is another update which improves the stability and reliability of Windows 7 in various scenarios. The first Stability and Reliability update was released a few days ago which fixed some issues related to keyboard function keys, notification icons and screen saver confliction with the sleep feature.
This update will resolve some more issues which were reported by customers who use the Error Reporting service or Microsoft Customer Support Services.

IE8 World's Most-Used Browser Now 02/03/2010 
This week, Net Applications released their January browser market share report. Their report shows that Internet Explorer 8 is not only the most popular browser on Windows with 27.9% usage share, but that it now has 25.6% of market share across all OS’s on a worldwide-weighted usage share basis.

Chrome OS's primary focus is netbooks, but it could eventually scale to a wide variety of devices. Each would have vastly different input methods, available screen space, and processing power. If your company has XenDesktop or XenApp you will be happy to know you will be able to use your iPad for real work, instead of just reading and browsing. It turns out the 9.7 inch display on the iPad with a 1024x768 screen resolution works great for a full VDI XenDesktop. Windows applications run unmodified and securely in the data center, and even multiple applications at once (multi-tasking).

Google Chrome 5 Debuts 02/01/2010

Google Chrome 5.0.307.1 Beta was released yesterday. Google chrome 5 now officialy supports windows 7. Included in the new version are a number of bug fixes, such as the ability to use default downloads directory on Vista and Windows 7 and improved plugin stability for the Mac version.
