Vista SP2 and XP SP3 Patches for November 11/06/2009 
Microsoft is going to release six security patches on November 10, 2009. Three of them have been labeled as Critical! These updates will patch Remote Code Executions and DoS (Denial of Service) flaws in the Windows XP, 2000, Vista, Server 2003 and 2008.

Windows 7 vulnerable to 8 out of 10 viruses 11/06/2009

A researcher at Sophos reports putting Windows 7's User Account Control (UAC) feature to the test and finding the technology failed to block numerous pieces of malware. Microsoft, however, stresses that UAC is only one part of Windows 7's security.
Windows 7 is vulnerable to no less than 8 out of 10 viruses currently spreading in the wild. All the Windows users are recommended to use an anti-virus.

Windows 7 retail sales exceed Vista sales by 234% 11/06/2009

According to NPD's weekly tracking service, Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. were 234 percent higher than Vista's first few days of sales. Revenue growth wasn't as strong though. A combination of early discounts on pre-sales and a lack of promotional activity for the Ultimate version resulted in dollar sales that were 82 percent higher than Vista.

"Fix it" Patch for Windows 7 Upgrade Hang Issue 11/04/2009 
Microsoft issued a "Fix it" patch on Tuesday for a Windows 7 upgrade problem that results in a system hang. The problem, for Vista users upgrading to Windows 7, is that the installer program never completes the upgrade. Instead, some users get a system hang after 62 percent of the upgrade has been completed.

DirectX 11 Released for Windows Vista 11/04/2009

One of the features of Windows 7 is DirectX 11, which is a superset of DirectX 10.1 already used in Vista Service Pack 2.
Microsoft had promised that Vista users wouldn't be left in the cold, and would be able to download and use DirectX 11. It included DirectX 11 in a beta version of its "Platform Update" available in September. The final version is now available via Windows Update.

According to Wzor, Microsoft has been hard at work on Windows 7 SP1 since the end of September 2009. At the start of 2010, members of the company's Technology Adoption Program around Windows 7 will be the first to get access to the SP1 Beta bits. But end users won't have very much to wait either. The Redmond company will reportedly release a public Beta of Windows 7 SP1 early in January 2010.

Over the past several days there have been various posts, etc. across a variety of social media engines stating that some "hack" (be it a person or a procedure) shows that a Windows 7 Upgrade disc can perform a "clean" installation of Windows 7 on a blank drive from a technical perspective.
Eric Ligman from Microsoft posted in his blog that, they often forgot to mention a very basic, yet very important piece of information… "Technically possible" does not always mean legal.
